At Your Harrogate we have teamed up with the Knaresborough Lions for the 2022 Great Knaresborough Bed Race.
As the media partner of the event, your local radio station takes care of the rapid dissemination of the safety messages.
We will also be hosting the afternoon entertainment at Conyngham Hall.
Kevin Lloyd, Chair of the Bed Race Organizing Committee, said that after a two year hiatus for the event it was very important to welcome Your Harrogate to the planning team.
“Stray FM have formally supported us as a partner in this event, a role that the Knaresborough Lions Club consider vital.
“We’ve relied on them to carry over fast-moving changes and developments, such as the year the Park and Ride lots had to remain closed over the Bed Race weekend.
“Local radio helped us get the message across and explained alternative solutions that visitors to Knaresborough could pursue.
“But with the incorporation of Stray FM into their current ownership in September 2020, we lost that resource.”
Speaking last week about the launch of Your Harrogate and our move to DAB, Kevin praised the role of local radio and its importance to the community.
“We are delighted that with the launch of Your Harrogate, local radio is back, covering and playing a part in our community here in North Yorkshire.
“It helps even more that the core of Your Harrogate is made up of people who were previously at Stray FM. So they know what matters and most importantly they understand the magic of the Great Knaresborough Bed Race.”
The return of the Great Knaresborough Bed Race
As in the years since the first Bed Race in 1966, the 2022 event will be held on the second Saturday in June, which this year falls on the 11th.
The race offers grueling athletic competition through the scenic cobbled streets and parkland of Knaresborough, up and down nearly vertical hills, culminating in a swim through the always icy waters of the River Nidd.
This is combined with a spectacular, if slightly eccentric, parade of decorated beds and runners on the theme of the year. In 2022, this theme will be “The Environment: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle”.
The registration period for teams is currently open and forms are available on the website www.bedrace.co.uk.
Entries must be received by Knaresborough Lions before the last day of the month (28th February 2022).
