Which bed frame is fit for you?

By the Twinamukye promise

The main meaning of a bed is to increase the height of a mattress. Bed frames come in many styles and materials, from plain wood or metal to sophisticated upholstery options.

There are beds with a headboard and footboard, and there are also those without. The market at your disposal is large and you are spoiled for choice.

Depending on what you want from your bed, taking a thorough quiz with yourself can go a long way toward making your choice. The questions can include; How long do I want to sleep in this bed? Does it match my bedroom theme color? How easy is it to clean? What material do I feel comfortable with? And many other personal questions can help you make the right decision.

Some of the few things that you need to consider before buying a bed frame can be the following:

Bed height
You have to make sure it’s just right. You don’t want to struggle to get to bed or even to get up. In this case, health and age can also be taken into account. If it’s too low it will be hard to get up. If it’s too high it will be difficult to get in.

To test the correct height, sit on the edge of the bed before buying. If your knees are higher than your hips, it’s too low. If your knees are lower than your hips, it might be too high. Once you’ve found a level where they’re more or less the same, this is the ideal bed height for you.

According to Eric Rwakoma, visual artist at RAC Studios in Kikoni, the bed can be given multiple functions. For example, in addition to sleeping, you can also add storage compartments.

“Some beds have lights, lamp stands, bedside tables and mosquito nets, but all of these will definitely cost an extra charge,” says Rwakoma.

Different beds are made from different materials that definitely have different prices. You can get a metal bed, a leather bed (imitation or pure) or even a wooden bed.

Some types of wood also have different prices depending on their durability. While wood and fabric beds are the common type, metal beds can also be found to suit their tastes.

Ready-to-install furniture
If you are unsure of how to get your bed into the room (or up the stairs) this might be your choice.
As long as you know how to assemble it or you have someone to assemble it for you, this option will help pass every entrance, every corridor.

This is one of the main limits on what to actually buy. The bigger the budget, the greater the choice.
“If a mahogany bed is dry and well made, the price is definitely higher than a Kiruundu bed,” says Rwakoma.

On Namuwongo Road, the custom-made standard beds start at Shs1.1 m, depending on the type of wood and design. Upholstered beds start at Shs1.3m.

On Nsambya Road, wooden beds range from Shs300,000 to Shs1m depending on the size of the bed.
In Kikoni, custom-made beds start from Shs1.5m, including the metal beds, according to Rwakoma.
The high prices of the different beds depend on where the beds are imported from and of course on the material.

Along Kampala Road, these beds range from Shs1.9m to Shs12m, mostly upholstered.
For the pallet beds, the cost ranges from Shs150,000 to Shs2m depending on where you buy from.

According to pubmed, we spend a third of our lives either sleeping or trying to sleep. You might as well make the hours count by investing in a better bed.

Size of the room
This plays a fundamental role in determining the size of the bed that one will purchase. To find the right bed for your bedroom, take into account the space for the other furniture that will be needed in the bedroom, such as a dresser, bedside tables, among others. This gives an estimated size that one might need for the bed.
