Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to race … your beds.
Sponsored by Total Restoration Services and Castanet, the Vernon Winter Carnival Total Fun Bed Races return in 2023 and organizers are looking for participants.
Carnival officials state the bed races are a “fun event where the teams participating can create their racing machines from the ground up.”
The winning team will win bragging rights for a year, along with their name on the coveted Winter Carnival Bed Races Trophy.
The race is free to enter and will be held Feb. 7 from noon to 2 pm at a location to be announced.
One teammate must ride on the bed during the race while four to six teammates do the pushing.
Beds must have four wheels. These can be bike tires, car tires, chair wheels or any other type of wheel, but all four wheels must be in contact with the ground at the finish line.
The bed must be constructed in a fashion that all pushers are able to see the course. Push bars (handles) are allowed, but may not extend more than 16 inches from the bed frame with no sharp edges.
Participants are encouraged to be as creative as possible when designing their race beds.
