uttarakhand: Give Quota-based Relaxations While Hiring Primary Teachers: Hc | Dehradun News

NAINITAL: The Uttarakhand high court on Tuesday directed the state government to allow a 5% relaxation to SC, ST and handicapped candidates on the mandatory 50% marks in BEd eligibility criterion for assistant teachers of the state’s primary school. However, only candidates who scored between 45% and 50% in graduation as well as BEd can avail this, the court added.
The division bench of senior justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari and justice RC Khulbe, while hearing a collection of over 50 petitions, said addressing the state government, “Teachers hired for classes 6 to 8 are not required to score 50% in BEd, so why only primary teachers? What is the concept behind it? Tell the court within four weeks.”
Chief standing advocate CS Rawat, representing the state government, told the court that National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has already issued a guideline to allow 5% relaxation to candidates belonging to SC, ST and handicapped categories.
