Trapped in Ikea: snowstorm in Denmark forces dozens to bed down in store | Denmark

A showroom in northern Denmark turned into a huge bedroom after six customers and about two dozen employees were stranded in a snow storm and forced to spend the night in the store.

Up to 30 centimeters of snow fell and held customers and employees when the department store in Aalborg closed on Wednesday evening.

“We slept in the furniture exhibition and in our showroom on the first floor, where we have beds, mattresses and sofa beds,” said branch manager Peter Elmose of the tabloid Ekstra Bladet. People could “choose exactly the bed they always wanted to try”.

Elmose said they spent the evening watching TV and eating, adding that “it went super well. It was a good night. It’s all fun. “

Danish public broadcaster DR said people who work in a toy store next to Ikea also spent the night in the department store.

“It’s much better than sleeping in the car. It was nice and warm and we’re just glad they let us in, ”Michelle Barrett, one of the toy store staff members, told DR.

“We just laughed at the situation because we probably won’t see it again,” added Barrett.
