Sarawak’s ICU bed utilisation rate rises to 45.5 pct

KUCHING (January 8): Bed occupancy in the intensive care unit (ICU) for Covid-19 in Sarawak rose slightly to 45.5 percent yesterday, compared to 42.2 percent on Thursday.

According to a health ministry infographic shared on Facebook, the state’s intensive care bed use for Covid-19 was the third lowest in the country.

It was much lower than the national intensive care bed occupancy rate of 57.6 percent recorded yesterday.

Klang Valley and Penang recorded the highest bed usage in intensive care units at 68.1 percent, followed by Kelantan (65.9 percent) and Terengganu (60.7 percent).

Melaka had the same bed occupancy in the intensive care unit as the national figures at 57.6 percent.

Other states where intensive care bed utilization was below the national rate were Negeri Sembilan (56.6 percent), Perak (56.4 percent), Sabah (55.9 percent), Pahang (55.1 percent), Johor (54 percent) Perlis (52.6 percent) and Kedah (41.1 percent).

Labuan had the lowest intensive care bed use at 33.3 percent.
