Row Erupts After Cops Chain Journalist’s Leg To Hospital Bed | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The photograph of a journalist with his leg chained to the hospital bed went viral on social media on Thursday, evoking strong reactions from different sections, including Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
According to reports, the journalist, Loknath Dalei from Balasore district, was arrested by Nilagiri police on Wednesday following a complaint by a home guard. The home guard alleged that he was thrashed by Dalei following an altercation.
The journalist was allegedly tortured by police in custody and fell ill. When his health deteriorated, he was admitted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH), Balasore.
There he was chained to the hospital bed during treatment. He was unchained on Thursday following protests from family members and friends.
Balasore SP Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra said a DSP-rank officer has been directed to investigate the matter. The Union education minister condemned the police action.
