ORLANDO: Comedian and actor Bob Saget was found dead on his bed in a luxury Florida hotel room with no sign of trauma, according to a report released Monday by the sheriff’s office.
There was no sign of foul play and the room itself was fine, “with items belonging to Mr. Saget on the bedside table, TV stand, closet and bathroom,” according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office report.
Saget’s left arm was across his chest and his right arm was resting on his bed when MPs and paramedics arrived at his room at the Ritz Carlton in Orlando on Sunday and pronounced him dead, the report said.
Saget was best known for his role as beloved single father Danny Tanner on the sitcom “Full House” and as the hilarious host of America’s Funniest Home Videos. He was 65.
Saget was scheduled to check out of his room on Sunday, and when family members couldn’t reach him, they contacted the hotel’s security team, who dispatched a security guard to his room, the report said.
When security officer Jody Lee Harrison walked into the room, all the lights were out. He found Saget on the bed and felt cold, Harrison told MPs, according to the report.
Harrison checked Saget for breathing and pulse, and when he found none, he called 911 for hotel security, the report said.
“We have an unresponsive guest in a room,” said an unidentified man from the hotel on an emergency call. “Busy. No breathing and no pulse. “
Saget was pronounced dead just before 4:20 p.m. ET. His room key indicated that he had entered the room shortly before 2:20 p.m. ET, according to the report.
His body was sent to the local coroner, who said in an email that it could take up to four months from the date of the examination for an autopsy report to be completed.
Saget was in Florida as part of his “I Don’t Do Negative Comedy Tour”. After warm public receptions to his gigs on Friday in Orlando and on Saturday in the seaside resort of Ponte Vedra Beach, he celebrated online.
“I’m back in comedy like I was when I was 26. I think I find my new voice and love every moment of it,” he posted on Instagram on Saturday.
Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo Saget, released a statement Monday calling her husband “my absolute everything”.
“I am so devastated and in disbelief. I am so deeply touched by the love and appreciation of our friends, family, his fans and his kind. When the time is right and this news isn’t that raw, I look forward to sharing more of Bob with the world. Share how much he meant to me, to everyone around him and to all of his fans and friends, ”she said in her statement.
Fellow comedians and friends praised Saget not only for his wit, but also for his friendliness.
“I’m broken. I’m sober. I’m totally in shock. I’ll never have a boyfriend like him again,” wrote John Stamos, who played with Saget in “Full House”. “I love you so much, Bobby. “
