Shimla, November 30th

Junior Basic Education (JBT) students demonstrated in Tolland, Shimla after police prevented them from marching to the Secretariat.

Students holding banners reading “Justice for JBT Students” rejected the decision to allow BEd passports to teach classes I through V. Students said there were about 50,000 JBT teachers out of work in the state and if the passport were allowed to teach elementary school classes, they would not get jobs.

“Why has the government opened 40 colleges when the JBT teachers can’t get jobs?” Asked the protesters. They called on the state government to appeal the High Court’s decision.
