Pic of arrested Odisha journo tied to hosp bed goes viral | India News

BHUBANESWAR : Shocked by a viral image of an arrested 45-year-old journalist lying supine in hospital with his left leg cuffed and the attached chain tied to a bedpost in Odisha’s Balasore district, the state human rights commission (OHRC) and the Editors Guild of India demanded answers on Friday.
Ahavildar was suspended, while an inspector in charge and another officer were transferred after the photo of Loknath Dalei — a journalist with a vernacular daily and a TV channel — went viral on Thursday. He was unshackled on Thursday following protests from family members and friends. Dalei alleged that police held a “grudge” against him for reporting cases of corruption.
OHRC took suo motu cognizance of the case and sought a report from police within a fortnight. The editors’ guild called upon the home ministry to take stringent action against the culprit(s).
