The survey was conducted by OnePoll and commissioned by Sealy, a mattress company. According to Talker, the survey consisted of 2,000 American pet owners and the results will have you snuggling up to your furry friends.
7 in 10 owners believe that they get a better sleep when their pet is in bed with them while 51 percent reported having a pet in bed helps them manage stress and anxiety. 47 percent said it was easier to settle into bed when their pet was next to them, 43 percent said they prefer to sleep with their pets as a source of “white noise”, and 42 said that their pets made them feel more secure.
The study also confirmed that most people treat their pets like humans and 66 percent let their pets share a bed with them. They even found that 58 percent of people in relationships would prefer to share a bed with their pets instead of their partners.
“Having a good night’s rest is crucial to our overall health and well-being,” Brent Pfister, senior vice president of marketing at Sealy told Talker. “As shown by this study, co-sleeping with pets can bring a sense of security and can help people – and their pets – settle in easier for bedtime; however, many people sleeping with their pets experience interrupted nighttime sleep – and so may also be sacrificing overall sleep quality and some of the more physical benefits gained from a night of good sleep.”
Owners did report that their pets disrupt their sleep at least two nights per week and a quarter said that their furry friends’ restlessness always wakes them up. However, many said that their pets are a perfect bed warmer and have a much better internal clock, and can act as an alarm clock in the morning. 57 percent even said that their pet’s bedtime impacts when they decide to go to sleep.
According to Talker, here are five perks of sleeping with a pet according to the participants:
- Wake up more rested and get better quality of sleep.
- They are part of the family and are together for bedtime.
- Helps lower stress and anxiety.
- Easier to settle in for the night.
- Helps feel more secure at night.
