Patricia D. Miller, 84, of Martinsburg, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday morning. She was born in Dover, Delaware, to the late Rev. Robert Gregory and Margaret Mary (Tidd) Downs. Patricia grew up in Dover, Delaware and Havertown, Pennsylvania.

On June 13, 1964, she married Edward R. Miller in Havertown.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 57; and three cousins: William Downs, Richard Downs and Susan Gillette.

She was preceded in death by a cousin, George Downs.

Patricia was a 1955 graduate of Haverford High School and a 1959 graduate of West Chester University, where she majored in elementary education. She taught first through fourth grades at Berwyn and Hillside Elementary (Berwyn) until her marriage to Edward in 1964. Over the years, Patricia continued to teach alternate elementary schools in Berwyn, Buckingham, Pennsylvania, Flemington, NJ, and Burlington, NC .

Although teaching reading was her specialty, she also acted as a substitute music teacher and was the piano accompanist at many school concerts. She was an outstanding pianist and accompanied nationally renowned soprano Lorraine Fleming, violinist Bob Marsh, soprano Lucile Countryman and many other singers.

She retired to the Homewood Retirement Community with her husband in 2001 and has remained a resident where the Lord has used her in various music ministries.

While living in Homewood, Patricia and Ed attended Martinsburg Mennonite Church. She truly loved the Lord and was greatly influenced by her parents’ faith journey and the many miracles the Lord gave to her family.

Friends will be welcomed Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Bice Memorial Chapel in Homewood, followed by an 11 a.m. service in the chapel in celebration of life, led by Pastors James Neatrour and Pastor Joseph Furry . The private burial will be at George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.

All guests must wear a mask during the service.
