The Union HRD Minister has announced that NCTE has decided to respect the decision of the Patna Supreme Court and has changed the criteria to qualify holders of D.El.Ed diplomas to teach in schools.

Good news! From now on, people with a NIOS diploma in Elementary Education, D.El.Ed (ODL program) can apply for teaching positions at various schools. Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has just confirmed that the National Council of Teacher Education, NCTE, has changed the eligibility rules so that D.El.Ed candidates are eligible to apply for school teaching positions .
The Union HRD minister went to his social media handle on Twitter to confirm the same thing. “Recognizing the decision of the Hon’ble Patna High Court to maintain equivalence between the D.El.Ed curriculum conducted through the NIOS and any other institute recognized by the NCTE for employment purposes, the NCTE has accepted the decision” he tweeted. He also stated that a letter to this effect had been written to the ACS (Education) of the Bihar government. After this decision, D.El.Ed graduates can apply for the position of school teacher with immediate effect.
Please note that the provisions of the D.El.Ed ODL have not yet applied to teaching positions in the upper level. With these changes, many diploma holders could now apply for apprenticeships.
