And rumors were rife when Nicola appeared holding hands alongside the actor on a recent red carpet that the Galway native would be joining him on the series.
However Nicola denied this but teased a new project she is working on.
When asked about the Dr Who speculation, she laughed: “That’s really funny because I just got an email from my agent saying, ‘LOL’.
“So I am not the new companion but I am working on something with Ncuti that I can’t say what it is.

“We are working together but not on Dr Who. That’s definite.”
When asked about the red carpet picture, Nicola said: “I didn’t think about that on the day. I just thought it would be a nice photograph.”
The Derry Girls star revealed she is spending a few days at home in Oranmore.
She told Ray D’Arcy on RTE Radio 1: “I’m back in Galway for my nephew’s confirmation.
“So I’m back in Galway for a couple of days and then I’m off to Los Angeles on the weekend.
“I’m doing a couple of Bridgerton bits and bobs.
“So it’s busy at the minute, but good busy, I can’t complain.
“You come home and you’re just the aunty. My nephew last night who’s six wanted me to babysit him.
“You get back to normality pretty quickly when you come home, it’s lovely.”
‘FEEL LUCKY’
When asked if her fame can be overwhelming at times, Nicola admitted that it can be.
However she’s grateful to still be easily grounded at home.
She said: “I feel lucky in a weird way that this happened to me when I’m older because I think if I was in my 20s my head would be spinning.
“I worked in retail for many many years. I lived enough of a life before any of this happened that I can keep my feet on the ground.

“It can all go away in a flash, nothing is guaranteed and you’re only as good as your last job.
“Work hard and be kind, those are the most important things.”
