Merit Health seeking license for swing bed service from MSDH – Mississippi’s Best Community Newspaper

NATCHEZ – Merit Health Natchez has applied for a permanent state license to offer rocking beds to patients.

According to Marketing Director Kay Ketchings, the term “rocking bed” refers to an acute hospital room that can be “swung” from an acute hospital bed into a nursing home bed, such as that offered in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities. This service enables the patient to transition from acute care to short-term rehabilitation without leaving the hospital.

“This valuable service at our hospital is another way to help patients get the care they need near their home and enable the patient to stay in one place without moving between hospitals or other facilities to have to, ”said Ketchings.

Ketchings said Merit Health Natchez received a temporary license to service rocker beds in March and is now seeking a permanent license from the Mississippi State Department of Health.

To do this, the hospital had to submit a “certificate of need” as required by the state.

The legal notice to their request was released by MSDH on Monday. The state allows people until November 29 to request a public hearing, after which their license can be approved.
