MaxLinear WAV600 Series-2 Chipset Selected for Wi-Fi Alliance Wi-Fi 6 Release 2 Certification Test Bed

CARLSBAD, California – (BUSINESS WIRE) – MaxLinear Inc. (NASDAQ: MXL) announced today that its WAV600 Series 2 chipset SoCs have been selected as Access Point Testbed Devices for the Wi-Fi Alliance® WLAN CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 certification. The test bench uses a MaxLinear WAV615 and two MaxLinear WAV665 Wi-Fi Transceiver SoCs to enable tri-band interoperability tests at 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz.

This chipset offers the most important functions over three bands of the IEEE 802.11ax Release 2 standard, which further increases the range, the network capacity per user and the battery life of the connected client devices. This solution is designed to provide both fast and consistent connectivity in home WiFi routers, gateways and intelligent range extenders for cable, xDSL, fiber optic and retail infrastructure.

In today’s publication of the Wi-Fi Alliance, according to recent research by IDC Research, almost two billion Wi-Fi 6 devices will hit the market in 2022 alone.

“New disruptive, disruptive, immersive real-time experiences such as multi-gigabit video, gaming and the demand for low latency services are driving market demand,” said Doron Tal, vice president, Broadband Access. “MaxLinear continues to lead the way in developing chipsets that are easy to integrate into the design of broadband access products and have the features required to realize the full potential of Wi-Fi 6.”

“With a global economic value of Wi-Fi projected to reach $ 5 trillion by 2025 and billions of devices shipped annually, Wi-Fi is one of the greatest success stories of the technology age,” said Kevin Robinson, senior vice president of marketing , Wi-Fi alliance. “Users are more dependent than ever on Wi-Fi for streaming services, video conferencing and online gaming, and as a result, both downlink and uplink traffic on Wi-Fi networks is increasing significantly. Wi-Fi Alliance is evolving Wi-Fi 6 certification to meet the needs of advanced applications and power management improvements, as well as advanced multi-user MIMO capabilities in Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6 Release 2 that will help build the legacy of Evolve Wi-Fi. Interoperability and security. ”

The MaxLinear WAV600 Series-2 chipset enables next-generation broadband platforms to serve this growing market.

  • Provides faster uploads for video streaming and gaming

The WAV600 Series-2 enables UL-MUMIMO, which allows multiple STAs to upload content at the same time, providing an overall better network performance and user experience especially for gaming, video calls, video conferencing and streaming applications.
  • Improves network performance

The WAV600 Series-2 not only offers speeds of up to 4.8 Gbit / s, but also further improves performance by supporting several novel Wi-Fi Certified 6 Release 2 functions:

    • Preamble puncturing which enables improved network access in the presence of narrowband interferers
    • M-BSSID which reduces the administration and signaling overhead when multiple networks (BSS) are supported
  • Improves battery life for mobile clients

The WAV600 Series-2 supports new improvements in power saving and sleep mode, including the new Wi-Fi Certified 6 Release 2 feature Target Wake Time (TWT), Broadcast Target Wake Time and Extended Sleep Time, the optimized sleep / wake up schedules for power-sensitive users Equipment.
  • Extends the reach for IoT clients

The WAV600 Series-2 supports the Uplink Extended Range function defined in Wi-Fi Certified 6 Release 2, which ensures that connections from outstations (STA) are maintained over a longer distance from an access point, and offers improvements that increase the Providing coverage in dense, congested environments such as high-rise apartments (MDUs).

The MaxLinear WAV600 Series 2 chipset includes the following IEEE 802.11ax 2021 compatible Wi-Fi transceiver solutions:

  • WAV615 – up to 1.14 Gbps PHY throughput, 2.4 GHz

  • WAV665 – up to 4.8 Gbps PHY throughput, 5-7 GHz

  • WAV655 – up to 3 Gbit / s PHY throughput, 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz (simultaneous dual band)
