Two Florida teachers were arrested and a man was shot dead after a burglary apparently drunk.
According to CBS 12 in West Palm Beach, on October 10, authorities say: Battery hallback Left Darius Cohen in his car while visiting a woman he’d met the night before. When he got back to the car, Hallback tried to escort Cohen back to the woman’s apartment so he could use the toilet. The men, who were both drinking, accidentally broke into a neighbor’s apartment, where a man, his wife and children were sleeping. When Hallback was using the toilet, Cohen climbed into bed.
“The woman was originally the one who heard her. And alerted her husband that she was starting to shout his name, ”said the Indian County Sheriff Eric flowers said the local broadcaster WPTV. “Then he spoke to the one who was lying in bed trying [sic] to keep them quiet about the children in the house. “
Flowers says an argument broke out after the tenant talked the men out of his house.
“The combined story of the three guys – sometime when they get into the parking lot, there is a scuffle,” Flowers explained at a press conference. “At some point someone produces a weapon. We don’t know who made the gun at the time. He [Cohen] approved for shooting. His side of the story was that they fought for the gun and it went off. “
Surveillance footage of the fight recorded four shots as the nameless tenant tried to escape. He was shot in the back once. He went to a friend’s apartment and called 911.
The two teachers, who both taught sports in local schools and were both former college athletes, were arrested on Monday. Fox 13 reports that Cohen, charged with attempted murder, remained in Indian River County Jail on October 20 on $ 750,000 bail. Hallback, who is charged with a drug offense, was released on bail of $ 15,000.
Both men, who had only entered the Indian River County School District at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, were both fired.
