Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River in the running for USA Today’s 10Best favorite haunted hotel in the country

One Massachusetts hotel is in the running to be voted the most favorited haunted hotel in the country.

The Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast in Fall River is in the top 20 running for USA Today’s 10Best favorite haunted hotel.

“Ghostly apparitions, flickering lights, and eerie sounds are just a few of the things you may encounter at one of these hotels, where it’s thought that certain guests have checked in but never checked out,” the website wrote about the nominees.

USA Today’s 10Best said the hotel “has a gruesome history.”

“The house was the site of unsolved murders: the hatchet killings of a man and his wife, and even the decapitation of a cat in the basement. Visitors to the B&B can choose from six rooms and suites that they may or may not be sharing with the spirits of the departed,” 10Best wrote.

In 2020, Thrillist also named bed and breakfast the creepiest place to visit in Massachusetts.

“After a stay there, I can attest: This home painstakingly furnished to look exactly as it did on the morning of the murders will creep you right out,” Camille Dodero wrote. “I didn’t sleep a wink.”

People come from all over the world to have their own supernatural experiences and have even reported feeling cold spots or hearing footsteps and voices and seeing full-bodied apparitions of the Borden family, MassLive previously reported.

Voting for the favorite haunted hotel in the country can only be done once per day until voting ends on Monday, Sept. 12 at noon ET. Winners will be announced on Friday, Sept. 23.

This was the only New England hotel to make the list. The next closest one to make the top 20 was the Fainting Goat Island Inn in Nichols, New York.
