Link COVID-19 curbs to hospital bed occupancy, not positivity rate: Goa Expert Committee

The Goa Government’s Committee of Experts on COVID-19 on Saturday recommended linking containment of the outbreak to hospital admissions rather than the previous practice of relying on the rate of positivity (infections per 100 tests).

The committee, which is formed during the day under the incumbent dean of the Goa Medical College, Dr. Wiseman met Pinto, saying the positivity rate is high but the number of people being admitted to hospitals for the infection is low.

A committee member said a lockdown should be imposed if hospital bed occupancy exceeds 50 percent.

He said the committee will meet every week until the positivity rate in the state drops.
