The Oscar winner’s father made a cameo in Paul Thomas Anderson’s coming-of-age film Licorice pizza – and it turned out he was perfect for the role.
“Haven’t seen it yet, but my father, George DiCaprio, made a cameo in a Paul Thomas Anderson film! Today was a good day, ”revealed Leonardo ET.
In the film, George plays Mr. Jack, the owner of a wig shop that sells waterbeds. And according to Leo, George actually did that in his career!
“He’s been selling waterbeds in real life,” Leo shared with ET.
How George got the role, Paul says he met George before and that came to mind when describing the character.
“I took a picture of a guy who owned a wig shop that sold these waterbeds and I couldn’t pinpoint it. I kept saying, ‘Who do I know who looks like this?’ And like a flash of lightning, I remember that ‘Leo’s father looks exactly like this,’ ”Paul told dem New York Times.
He continued, “So I found him and asked if he was ever interested in a movie. He said, ‘Sure.'”
It wasn’t until he described the character to George that he learned that he actually owned a waterbed company called Foggy Bottom.
“It was one of those things. I said, ‘Well, you’re the right man for the job,'” Paul concluded.
Licorice pizza is now available in select cities and everywhere on Christmas Day.
