Kolkata: Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (first while KoPT) is planning to set up a medical college at its existing Centenary Hospital in Majerhat. It is looking for bids to upgrade the infrastructure through the PPP model. The 104-bed hospital will be upgraded into a 300-bed super-specialty hospital.
For setting up the medical college, the port is offering 6 acres, an official said. The estimated project cost is expected to be over Rs 200 crore.
Retired bureaucrats Bipin Behari Mullick and Anand Deep will review the bidders so that all norms are followed. “Within 18 months, the 150-bed hospital is to be fully operational and in the next phase, a 300-bed super specialty hospital is to be developed so that the transition to the medical college can happen,” said Port CMO Dipak Dutta.
During the initial phase, there will be departments like pulmonology, cardiology and rheumatology and in the next phase, there will be neurology, endocrinology and geriatric medicine. There will also be departments for critical care, transfusion, gastroenterology, urology and nephrology, pediatrics, fetal medicine, dermatology and orthopedics.
