Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp provided clarity about the future of goalkeeping coach John Achterberg with his pre-Wolves update and shared the news of a contract extension for the Dutchman, who has been with the team since 2009.
The appointment of world champion ex-shotstopper Claudio Taffarel to the goalkeeping department raised eyebrows, and some wondered if the club wanted to shake up some of its back room staff significantly.
As the German noted, however, our youngest employee will support the overall coaching of the extremely talented goalkeepers of the Reds, from Marcelo Pitaluga to Alisson Becker.

With so many goalkeepers, the appointment makes little sense because we want to preserve Alisson Becker’s legacy.
If we can avoid spending a lot of money on a goalkeeper who can match the quality of our Brazilian number 1 across the board by promoting from the inside out, we could end up reserving money for an important transfer when we need it urgently .
It’s a step that fits our sustainable model perfectly and that we will certainly more than approve here at the Empire of the Kop if one of our highly rated youngsters finally makes it.
