Galway Bay FM Newsroom – The number of Covid-19 patients at the UHG has remained stable in the past 24 hours, after having decreased significantly in the past week.
There are currently 18 hospitalized patients with the virus, including two cases in intensive care.
However, currently only one single bed is available in the intensive care unit at the UHG, while 16 general beds are available.
Visitor restrictions were imposed this week amid concerns that a surge in Covid-19 cases could overwhelm the hospital.
According to the HSE boss, hospitals across the country are under “heavy pressure” with around 20 percent of Covid patients in intensive care.
There are 611 people with the virus in the hospital and 118 in the intensive care unit – with only 17 beds in the adult intensive care unit nationwide.
