IRCTC alarm! Indian Railways will resume catering services on board and will soon be providing bed linen and blankets

Indian Railways is expected to resume onboard catering and other passenger amenities soon. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the state-owned company that provides ticketing and tourism services for Indian Railways, is reportedly expected to restore onboard catering and other amenities soon.

According to IRCTC sources, Railways is considering resuming services that have been suspended in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sources went on to claim that Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnav would call a meeting next week at which a decision could be taken on resuming services related to on-board kitchen and catering services, the provision of bedding and blankets.

The decision to resume such services is likely due to the high demand from travelers and even rail staff for these basic facilities on board passenger trains.

Since March 2020, in the wake of an increase in the lockdown triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, the railways had suspended the catering business and other services such as the provision of bedding and blankets. The cessation of catering services has also had an impact on the employment of many people.

Later, in August 2021, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Cooperation (IRCTC) resumed e-catering services.

According to the report, the railway also carried out a survey on its catering services. The survey carried out among 20,000 passengers found that 80% preferred cooked meals to prepackaged meals.

More than 500 restaurants including Comesum, Domino’s, Railrestro, Zoop, Relfood, Garg Rajdhani Online Food, Yatri’s, Rail Recipe are available on the IRCTC website.
