Former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe speaks to fans about her mental health after struggling with depression, which she says is triggered by her hormones.

On Sunday, the reality star took to Instagram to share an “unfiltered moment” about her mental health. Bristowe stated that amid the fun, filtered photos she often shares, she wants her platform to “address raw shit, to keep it real” too.

In terms of maintaining reality is the Dance with the stars champ, 36, admitted “I’m struggling today,” added, “and it’s NO surprise that I’m on my period.”

“I have hormonal depression like an MF,” continued Bristowe, who was engaged to Jason Tartick this spring. “It gets my relationship through tough times, it puts me in shameful spirals and I was just sitting on a 5 hour flight talking myself out of a panic attack. I can have a life of adventure and I’m so proud of myself for doing so hard to work but today it takes my toll. “

The TV personality shared a photo of herself rocking purple sweater and clutching a large coffee drink, adding that the mood swings she experienced during her period made her feel like she was “not crazy.”

“I never put two and two together that it was always about the same time,” she said. “Hormones are the devil and they are stronger than me. Today I just want to crawl into my own bed and cry. But I have no time. This coffee, which is as big as me, can only do so much.”

The frank contribution prompted many in and from the Bachelor Nation to offer words of support and compassion. Many women left comments about their own menstrual cycles affecting their mental health.

“That’s real,” wrote comedian Nikki Glaser, who has also spoken openly about her mental health. “So relatable. Know that however you feel, it won’t last forever. It always helps me to remember that I am sick and it will go away like a cold. “
