PANAJI: The Goa Government’s Committee of Experts on COVID-19 on Saturday recommended linking containment of the outbreak to hospital admissions instead of the previous practice of basing it on the rate of positivity (infections per 100 tests).
The committee, which is formed during the day under the incumbent dean of the Goa Medical College, Dr. Wiseman met Pinto, saying the positivity rate is high but the number of people being admitted to hospitals for the infection is low.
A committee member said a lockdown should be imposed if hospital bed occupancy exceeds 50 percent.
He said the committee will meet every week until the positivity rate in the state drops.
Goa reported 1,789 COVID-19 cases on Saturday with a positivity rate of 23.25 percent as the number was drawn from 7,693 tests, an official said.
The positivity rate on Friday is 21.72 percent, he emphasized.
The number in the state stands at 1,87,987, the number of laid-offs is 1,76,907, including 170 during the day, and the toll increased by one to 3,531, he said.
The active number in Goa is 7,549 and the number of tests conducted in the state to date to detect the infection is 16,66,034, he added.
