An American fugitive caught after being admitted to a Scottish hospital for Covid-19 had faked his own death to avoid charges of fraud and sexual assault in the US.
Nicholas Alahverdian, 34, was arrested at Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital last month after nearly dying from coronavirus. He is now threatened with extradition to the United States.
The man wanted had used the name Arthur Knight when he was arrested by Scottish police, but American officials believe he used at least eight different aliases to avoid detection.
Hospital workers in Glasgow were able to identify Alahverdian from photos, according to investigators, who say his fingerprints and DNA were provided to Interpol.
