Five sweet treats to get you out of bed this weekend

Posted on

Nothing says “hello weekend” like baked goods.

And with more rain on the horizon (did someone say lazy rainy days?), it feels like the perfect excuse to indulge in a sweet, sugary and sticky treat from some of Canberra’s best bakeries.

We’ve rounded up five of our favorites so you don’t even need to Google. Your stomach (and soul) will thank you.

Burnt basque cheesecake at Sourdog Provisions

When Project Enoki brought us their burnt basque cheesecake, a legend was born. When it was brought back permanently as Sourdog Provisions, the sound of our stomachs cheering could be heard all over Canberra. Name a better excuse to go to Nicholls?

28/64 Kelleway Ave, Nicholls || @sourdogprovisions

Macadamia cruffin with myrtle sugar at Three Mills

Yep you read that right—golden, flaky cruffins (the combination of a croissant and muffin) filled with macadamia and creme patissiere. drool

the best bit You can buy them as a bake-at-home pack, the perfect excuse to treat yourself throughout the week. You deserve it.

A classic Lambington at Sonoma

A true Sonoma pastry staple, you can’t go past a lamington. Think layers of soft and fluffy vanilla sponge cake, house-made raspberry jam, raspberry crumble and Heilala vanilla cream cheese filling. Individually dipped in a dark chocolate glaze and rolled in coconut, can you say “YUM?!”

Vanilla buns at UNDER Bakery

If you haven’t been to UNDER Bakery, let us introduce you to your newest obsession. Home to delicious sweet Scandinavian buns (and cookies and bread), choose from goodies like the cardamon bun or the vanilla bun and cozy up with a coffee.

Cinnabuns at Sweet Bones

cinnabuns? You mean sinner buns. The decadent combination of a scroll and cinnamon roll, you need to try one to understand why these have become an icon around Canberra. Made fresh in store, all we can say is grab your stretchy pants: you’ll need them.

Pain perdu at Silo

A treat to enjoy in the bakery (rather than taking it home), you can’t go past Silo’s signature French toast. Served with pistachio crusted poached pear, raspberry coulis and in-house mascarpone, every mouthful will have you saying “c’est magnifique!”
