Fernandinho doubled Manchester City’s lead against West Ham United to give his side the two-goal cushion they needed later.
The Brazilian, who had been substituted on for Raheem Sterling just minutes earlier, shot the ball into the lower left corner after a clean kick from Ilkay Gündogan, who also scored City’s first goal of the afternoon.
City’s second of the afternoon allowed them to come over the line against a formidable West Ham and close the gap to leaders Chelsea on goal difference.

However, Chelsea are up and running against Manchester United in the late kick-off on Sunday, so Chelsea could regain the three-point cushion they had at the beginning of the weekend.
West Ham meanwhile remains fourth, level on points with Arsenal.
