Fantasma Fest returns to Ybor City with pumpkin patch, bed racing

TAMPA, Florida (WFLA) – If you want to get in the Halloween mood, head to the Fantasma Fest in Ybor City along historic 7th Avenue this weekend.

The two-day event is presented by the Ybor Merchants Association and includes a pumpkin patch, bed races and a classic car show.

Children are encouraged to dress up for trick or treating at several local shops around Ybor. Kids can also stop by the Little Monsters Pumpkin Patch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a free mini pumpkin and art kit to take away and decorate with.

After the Little Monsters Pumpkin Patch, families are encouraged to watch the Big Monsters Bed Race. During this competition, racers build a bed to drag-race style down historic 7th Avenue.

“You have the bed, you have four people pushing it, and you have someone on the bed. If you’re sprinting two blocks and trying to keep the bed steady, it’s definitely a workout, ”said Tom DeGeorge, spokesman for the Ybor Merchants Association.

According to the organizers, the winners of the Big Monsters Bed Race can receive two trophies and “bragging rights”.

“Two trophies. One for the most creative bed and one for the fastest bed. Those trophies are the same trophies every year, so the winning companies keep them year round, ”DeGeorge said.

On Sunday, the Hell On Wheels Car Show will take place at the Fantasma Fest from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Car lovers will showcase vintage cars and vintage motorcycles. The proceeds from the car registration and raffle will go to a veteran charity.
