Covid-19 Watch: 2,107 new cases on April 30, nationwide ICU bed usage hovers above 50%

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 2,107 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (April 30), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,448,004 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s CovidNow portal reported that 2,091 of Saturday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while 16 imported infections were logged.

Recoveries continued to outpace new infections, with 6,890 patients recovering on Saturday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,366,951 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 45,506 active cases currently in the country, with 44,214, or 97.2%, observing home quarantine and 33 individuals, or 0.1%, admitted to low-risk quarantine and treatment centres.

The CovidNow portal reported that 1,259 patients, or 2.76% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 69, with 45 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilization rate nationwide stood at 52.1%, with five states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilization rate at 74%, followed by Kuala Lumpur (71.1%), Selangor (64.6%), Kelantan (62%) and Johor (61.4%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that five Covid-19 deaths were reported on Saturday, which brought the death toll to 35,547.
