Covid-19 Watch: 1,627 new cases, nationwide ICU bed usage at 63.7%

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,627 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (Oct 8), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,853,523 infections since the pandemic began.

The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 1,624 of Saturday’s new Covid-19 cases were local transmissions while three imported infections were logged.

There were 2,379 recoveries on Saturday. This brings the cumulative number of recoveries in Malaysia to 4,794,004 since the pandemic began.

The portal also reported that there were 23,121 active cases currently in the country, with 22,115, or 95.6%, observing home quarantine.

The KKMNow portal reported that 963 patients, or 4.2% of the total, were currently admitted to hospital for treatment. The number of Covid-19 patients warded at intensive care units (ICU) throughout the country stands at 43, with 27 of these patients requiring ventilation support.

The ICU utilization rate nationwide stood at 63.7%, with eight states or localities recording ICU usage rates of more than 60%.

Kedah had the highest ICU utilization rate at 83.3%, followed by Johor (77.7%), Selangor (72.1%), Sabah (69.3%), Kuala Lumpur (67.4%), Negri Sembilan (67.3%), Kelantan (63.3%) and Putrajaya (60%).

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository reported that four Covid-19 deaths were reported on Saturday.

This brings the death toll to 36,398.
