Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has revealed he’s started going to bed early as a way of saving money amid the ongoing cost of living crisis.

The actor, who plays Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap, posted on Twitter and wondered if anyone else had altered their evening routine.

‘Anyone else find themselves going to bed early just so they don’t have to turn the lights on?’, he asked.

‘I feel like I did when I was 8 and could still hear the bigger kids playing outside #energycrisis’.

This prompted many of Daniel’s followers to share what they are doing to save themselves some money as news recently revealed energy prices will rise in October, with Ofgem bosses warning the price cap is set to jump to around £2800.

One of Daniel’s followers said: ‘To save on my energy bills whenever I’m home I never put the lights on and limit how much TV I watch’, while another wrote: ‘Lights on in an emergency situation only for me!’.

Today, Rishi Sunak will give a statement and set out measures designed to help the poorest deal with the biggest squeeze on living standards in decades.

It is alleged the chancellor will adopt Labor’s policy of imposing a windfall tax on energy firms, with households potentially receiving up to £400 in relief as an expansion to the energy rebate scheme.
