Atrium Health Pineville opens new bed tower | Pinevillepilot

CHARLOTTE – Atrium Health Pineville opened its newest addition on December 8th when it was taking patients to the newly built Palmetto Tower.

The newly built, eight-story, 236,000 square meter patient tower will increase the capacity from 262 licensed beds to 307. Each room can switch between different levels of care, including an acute care room, an intensive care unit, and rehabilitation care.

If necessary, there will be room for future expansion, with the top two floors of the new tower remaining open.

“The Palmetto Tower will enable Atrium Health Pineville to expand our care capabilities and better serve this growing region,” said Mike Lutes, senior vice president and president of South Market, Atrium Health. “We look forward to continuing to assist the residents of the region with all medical problems. The hospital is growing in size and complexity as the population remains the target of choice for medical decisions. “

The hospital has been providing medical care and services to patients in the area since 1987. What began as a standalone emergency care is now an advanced tertiary hospital that has since brought specialized medical care to the area, such as the Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, the Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute, the Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute, and Women’s Care.

Over the past year, Atrium Health has added even more advanced services to Pineville, including colon surgery, pelvic surgery, robotic cardio-thoracic surgery, epilepsy monitoring, and maternal-fetal monitoring.

“Our expertise and reputation have grown since the hospital opened as an emergency care facility in what was then an open area,” said Alicia Campbell, vice president and facility executive, Atrium Health. “We now have the specialists and staff who can handle the wide variety of medical situations that are presented to us. The Palmetto Tower will be the key to offering even more complex services. “

Recently, Atrium Health Pineville won its fourth Fortune / IBM Watson Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals Award in a row. The hospital was also recognized by US News & World Report as performing in heart attack, heart failure, diabetes / endocrinology, nephrology, knee replacement, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. And recently, the hospital was named on US News & World Report’s top list of Best Hospitals for Maternity.
