nashik: A city court on Wednesday remanded a 22-year-old man to three-day police custody in connection with the alleged rape of a 60-year-old bed-ridden woman. The man had been arrested by the police on Tuesday afternoon.
Senior police officials said the arrested man also has a case of attempt to murder registered against him. The police said the woman, who had suffered a paralysis attack, lives alone in her shanty and has been bed-ridden for the past many years.
Between 1 and 3 am on Tuesday, the accused man, who resides in the same area, entered the woman’s shanty and allegedly raped her repeatedly. He threatened her with dire consequences if she raised alarm. He also took her photographs before leaving, she said. The woman narrated the incident to her brother who stays next to her house, after which a complaint was registered with the Upnagar police station. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested the suspect.
