60-bed hospital to be built near Traildwinds Village in Wildwood

A 60 bed hospital is being built in Wildwood near Trailwinds Village on County Road 466A.

HCA Healthcare, Inc. announced plans to build three new acute care hospitals in Florida to meet the state’s growing needs for health services.

The new hospitals include the Wildwood Hospital, a 90-bed acute care unit in Gainesville and a 100-bed acute care hospital in Fort Myers. Construction should start next year.

HCA Healthcare currently has 47 hospitals across the state serving as its extensive network of care, which includes more than 400 affiliated locations. is known HCA Florida Health Care.

Wildwood is experiencing a population increase.

Wildwood’s population reached nearly 21,000 earlier this year, according to an estimate by the University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research. On April 1, the city had 20,909 inhabitants, which is 5,179 permanent residents compared to the previous year. Wildwood added more than 270 homes per month over the past year, with most of those homes being built in The Villages.

UF Health, parent company of UF Health-The Villages Hospital and UF Health-Leesburg Hospital, is also planning a new 400-bed hospital at 470 County Road and the Florida Turnpike.
