431-bed Trinity Health hospital latest to challenge Aetna contract

St. Joseph’s Health, based in Syracuse, NY, a 431-bed hospital owned by Trinity Health, is the newest on the network to alert patients to an impending termination period.

The contract, which expires at the end of the year, could affect 15,000 patients, according to information syracuse.com.

An Aetna spokesman said Beckers that Trinity Health has issued cancellations in a handful of markets with Aetna, with St. Joseph’s being the newest battlefield.

“It is not uncommon for a health insurance company or a service provider to issue a notice of termination during negotiations if the parties cannot reach an agreement,” the spokesman said Beckers. “We will continue to offer our members network access to St. Joseph’s Health through December 31st. We will maintain close communication with our members and customers throughout the negotiation process.”

St. Joseph’s Health is seeking “a reasonable contract that more adequately covers the cost of care and services that St. Joseph’s Health provides,” the provider said syracuse.com in a statement.
