150-bed hotel and more than 170 homes destined for ex colliery site

Property group Harworth is selling two plots of land at its Waverley development site in Rotherham to allow for the development of 172 apartments and a hotel.

The deals include a 12.6-acre property sold to Avant Homes for the supply of the new homes and a 2.7-acre property sold to Stapleford Ventures for the development of a four-star, 150-acre Marriott hotel rooms was sold.

The sale to Avant Homes represents the homebuilder’s fourth acquisition in Waverley and the property is adjacent to a property the homebuilder purchased in 2020 for the delivery of 144 homes.

The 172 new homes will be built between the River Rother and Highwall Park in an area of ​​the development known as Waverley Riverside.

As part of the construction, Harworth will provide a wrap-around cycle and bridleway alongside the river and begin work on the first phase of Highwall Park, a proposed 1.5km linear park that will run through the heart of the Waverley site and the Advanced connects Manufacturing Park (AMP_ to Waverley Lakes.

The proposed hotel will operate under Marriott’s Courtyard brand and will offer 150 rooms over six floors, as well as a restaurant and guest fitness facilities. It will occupy a prominent position at the entrance roundabout of the Waverley development.

In Waverley, Harworth is transforming the former Orgreave colliery into a community with up to 3,890 homes and 2.1 million square feet of industrial and logistics space at the AMP and 310 acres of green space.

To date, land for over 1,875 homes has been sold and 1.5 million square feet of space has been delivered at the AMP.

Harworth is awaiting the outcome of a planning application for Olive Lane, a new heart of Waverley’s community where proposals include a supermarket, restaurants and cafes, a medical center and offices and additional residential development.
